ECU ART STUDENTS WIN AWARDS

Eric Hollingsworth (left) of Ada receives the Leon Polk Smith Scholarship as an outstanding junior in East Central University's Art Department from Dr. Brad Jessop, chair of the department. The scholarship was based on Hollingsworth's entries of a number of strong sculptural works, particularly his work with wire, in the 53rd Annual Student Exhibition. The scholarship honors Leon Polk Smith, Oklahoma's best-known artist and an ECU graduate. The presentation was made during the Art Department's awards reception in the University Gallery.

 

 

Scott Johnson (left) of Holdenville receives the Leon Polk Smith Scholarship as an outstanding senior in East Central University's Art Department from Dr. Brad Jessop, chair of the department. Johnson was awarded the scholarship for his numerous entries in various media in the 53rd Annual Student Exhibition and for overall classroom performance. The scholarship honors Leon Polk Smith, Oklahoma's best-known artist and an ECU graduate. The presentation was made during the Art Department's awards reception in the University Gallery.

 

 

Holdenville's Lance Newman receives the Chair's Award for excellence in the Department of Art. The presentation was made during the annual Art Department Awards Reception, part of the 53rd Annual Student Exhibition. Art awards go to students who demonstrate exceptional quality, based upon portfolio performance in the exhibition.

 

 

East Central University student Amy Nix of Seminole receives The Emma Box Scholarship from Dr. Brad Jessop, chair of the Department of Art. The scholarship is named for one of the co-founders of ECU's art department. Nix has excelled in drawings and encaustic and her works were displayed at the Momentum Oklahoma City exhibit. The presentation was made during the department's awards reception in the University Gallery.

 

 

Senior Zach Presley of Ada receives the Dean's Award for excellence in art at East Central University from Dr. Brad Jessop, chair of the Art Department. The presentation was made during the annual Art Department Awards Reception, part of the 53rd Annual Student Exhibition. Art awards go to students who demonstrate exceptional quality, based upon portfolio performance in the exhibition.

 

 

East Central University students Spencer Ulm (left) of Holdenville and Amber Farnell of Sulphur receive the Grant Thorp Scholarship in the Department of Art from Dr. Brad Jessop, chair of the department. The scholarship, which is awarded to an extraordinary student who also demonstrates a dedication to service, was shared by the seniors. Jessop said both excelled not only as art students but also in accepting leadership roles in the Art Club and taking part in numerous exhibits outside the university. Both students were featured in the exhibit Momentum Tulsa last summer. The presentation was made during the department's awards reception in the University Gallery.

Erin Wetherill of Ada receives The Ada Artist Association Scholarship from Dr. Brad Jessop, chair of East Central University's Department of Art. It was awarded to Wetherill for her works in silver exhibited in the 53rd Annual Student Show at ECU. The presentation was made during the annual Art Department Awards Reception in the University Gallery.
