A $793,828 grant has been awarded to East Central University's Department of Nursing to expand its nursing program in the Ardmore area and increase the number of students in its RN to BSN completion program.
The grant, from the Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA), will enable ECU to continue the expansion of its nursing program in Ardmore and offer the RN to BSN completion program every year. The grant also will help establish partnerships with K-12 grade schools to focus on recruiting American Indian students from rural areas.

The popular Athletic Injury Management Seminar will be offered in Shawnee for the first time July 14-15 [MONDAY-TUESDAY] by East Central University. The class will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Gordon Cooper Technology Center.
The course meets Oklahoma's state requirement for Care and Prevention for Secondary School Coaches. It offers basic instruction for new and experienced coaches and others in the care, prevention, assessment and management of frequently injured parts of the body.

A new carpooling service just introduced at East Central University can help cut transportation costs for ECU students, faculty and staff who live outside Ada.
ECU has contracted with Carpoolworld.com., a company which matches commuters from the same geographical areas who are going to the same location.

Buffy Lovelis, a 2005 graduate of East Central University, has been named ECU's director of alumni relations.
She has worked in the University Advancement Office, which includes the Alumni Relations Office, since March 2007. She previously was the database manager and executive administrative assistant, managing the Blauckbaud Information System as well as daily office activities for University Advancement and Alumni Relations.

A total of 61 baccalaureate-educated nurses ready to enter the workforce made up the May 2008 graduating class of Registered Nurses at East Central University.
The class included 49 generic students, those who completed an eight-semester program, including five semesters of clinical courses, to receive a bachelor's degree with a major in nursing, and 12 RN to BSN graduates.

Outstanding academic work during the spring semester has earned listings on the President's Honor Roll and the Deans' Honor Roll for students at East Central University.
Students must complete at least 12 credit hours during the semester to be included on either honor roll. They cannot receive an "I" for incomplete work.

Outstanding students in East Central University's Human Resources Department have been recognized for their achievements with scholarships and awards during a year-end ceremony.
Recipients of the Richard E. Baumgartner Scholarship Award, which honors the late chair of the Human Resources Department, were Parker Kempf of Oklahoma City, winner of the graduate student award, and Samantha Moreno of Marietta, selected for the undergraduate award.
