The Arts District of Ada will host an ice cream social Tuesday [SEPT. 23] at the Chickasaw Nation Community Center, 700 N. Mississippi. The event is come-and-go from 4 to 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

"The purpose of the ice cream social is to provide an opportunity for local artists to showcase their work, and at the same time provide a chance for the community to become familiar with our local artists and upcoming events," said Bridget Forshay, community development coordinator for the Ada Arts District.

Not only will the community have the chance to mingle with local artists and performers, they will learn about upcoming events that are being planned for the area and be able to share their ideas for future events.

"This is a great opportunity," said Forshay, "to not just enjoy great ice cream and meet new people, but to discover the amazing talent that Ada has to offer. For artists and arts-related businesses, this is an opportunity to network and come together to promote arts in the community."

The Arts District of Ada also will introduce its new logo designed by Ada native John Green. Green has worked as a staff designer/illustrator with the Dallas Times Herald and Dallas Morning News. His freelance clients include OERB, JC Penny, AQHA, Pentagram and Scholastic.

Green is the son of Jim and Sandra Green of Ada.

"The style chosen for the Arts District," said Forshay, "is a combination of Art Deco and Spanish Revival. The colors in the logo come from the arts district color pallette that compliments these architectural styles."

The Arts District of Ada, formally known as the East Main Cultural Arts District, is supported by several community organizations including East Central University, the City of Ada, Tri-County Indian Nations Community Development Corporation, Chickasaw Nation, Ada Jobs Foundation and the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce.
