High school marching bands will compete for awards Saturday [OCT. 2] in the first ECU Bron Warren Tiger Palooza at East Central University.
The competition will begin at 4 p.m. at Norris Field. Each band will march twice, once for preliminary judging and again for the finals, which will begin at 7 p.m. A performance by ECU's Marching Band will conclude the program. The $2 cost covers admission and a program.
"We want to encourage the community to come out and watch some great bands," said Dr. Allen Correll, ECU band director.
Correll said the tournament will be a contest/clinic experience for bands, starting with a small number this year and plans to build the competition each year.
Participating bands are from Ada, Lindsay and Noble and as far away as Altus and Enid. Trophies will be presented to class winners and the best drum major, drumline and colorguard in preliminary competition. Trophies will also be awarded for overall placement after the finals competition. The awards ceremony will begin at 8:30 p.m. A special award will go to the band with the most spirit.
The contest is named for Bron Warren who lost his battle with cancer earlier this year. He was a drum major for the Ada High School Marching Band and a member of the ECU Band. His parents are Bronson and Allene Warren.
The proceeds from the contest will go toward the Bron Warren Scholarship Fund at ECU.
