The play was written in the mid-17th century during the reign of Louis XIV.  In The Imaginary Invalid, Argan, who is a hypochondriac, devises a scheme to marry his oldest daughter off to a doctor so he can get free medical care. His daughter, Angelique, has already fallen in love with Cleante.  The family maid, Toinette, and Argan’s rational brother, Beralde, try to remedy the predicament and get the young couple together.

Argan is played by sophomore Wyatt Freeman from Ardmore; Angelique by sophomore Micah Worcester of Ada; Cleante by Benjamin Paul Eckert, a sophomore math major from Stevensville, Mont.; witty maid Toinette by Haley Cantrell, a senior from Dewar; and Beralde is portrayed by junior Domineque Carey of Springer, Okla.

Also playing prominent roles are: Marlee Clark, Mendenhall freshman as Beline, the gold-digging second wife of Argan; Ada sophomore Mason Gibson as Doctor Diaforius; Stratford senior Chad Woods as her idiot son, Thomas; Skiatook’s Cheyney Jo Taylor as Argan’s enema-crazy doctor Purgon; Fox sophomore Garrett Nichols as the apothecary Fleurant; and Dewar’s Amria Norman as Argan’s younger daughter and appointed spy, Louison.

David Spradling, a sophomore from Marietta, plays dual roles as a philandering notary,

Bonnefoy, and an actor portraying the president of the medical society. The members of musical theatre ensemble Showtime help out during a raucous finale. Senior Jenny Barrett serves as stage  manager and set designer for the show. The production is being directed by Dr. Richard Groetzinger.
