Greek Life Requirements for Good Standing and Academics

In order to foster excellence in academics, superior leadership skills, and build a healthy and strong community, the Greek community at East Central University designed and endorsed a series of standards.

Over the past year, the Office of Campus Life and Leadership and the Greek leaders have worked diligently and cooperatively to establish standards of excellence that includes a clear commitment to make academic excellence a core pillar of the ECU Greek experience. This shift in the Greek community paradigm is a result of student leaders refocusing their energies to include promotion of academic success programs and academic competitions in their everyday interactions with each other.

Good Standing Requirements:

In order for a chapter to remain in Good Standing with the Office of Campus Life and Leadership, the following requirements must be met:

Receive an Average rating on the annual Standards of Excellence report (failure to achieve this rating will result in “Poor Standing” status for the following calendar year).

Chapter must be clear of any conduct, academic, or social probation(s) with their inter/national office.

Academic Requirements:

In an effort to better emphasize the academic focus and mission of both the University and the fraternity and sorority community, the following minimum chapter academic standards were developed by the Office of Campus Life and Leadership.

To maintain compliance with the Academic Performance standard set by the Office of Campus Life and Leadership, each chapter must have a semester grade point average for its full current membership that is at or exceeds a 2.75. Effective fall 2012, chapter must maintain a last semester chapter GPA of at least 2.85 for both Active and New Members.

Failure to maintain the minimum GPA will result in the chapter being placed on Academic probation(s) with the Office of Campus Life and Leadership for all campus and Inter/National reporting.

Should a chapter not meet specified requirements set forth by the Office of Campus Life and Leadership, temporary suspension of activities may occur until the requirements are met.
