Interfraternity Council (IFC)
What is the Interfraternity Council (IFC)?
The Interfraternity Council (IFC) at East Crentral University is the governing body for 4 men’s fraternities on campus. The Interfraternity Council is responsible for ensuring communication among the fraternities, as well as coordinating specific events, including Fall and Spring Recruitment, the IFC New Member Education Speakers and other Greek activities.
IFC Recruitment
Recruitment, or “rush,” is the process of recruiting new members into the Interfraternity Council (IFC). IFC holds formal recruitment during the Fall and Spring.
Men interested in joining a fraternity should meet as many fraternity members as possible during the fall semester and learn about the various activities sponsored by each chapter. The more people you meet in fraternities, the more options are likely to be available to you at the conclusion of the process.
Incoming freshmen may sign with a fraternity as soon as they have graduated from high school, or as early as April, or they may continue the recruitment process through the summer and even into the fall semester before signing. The goal of the recruitment process is to learn more about the fraternities and interact with current members so you can decide which one to join.
Each of our fraternity chapters has one or two people elected to serve as recruitment chairperson(s). These men will review your information from the database and begin calling, writing, or e-mailing you within a few days. They will send you information about their fraternity, why you should join, what kinds of philanthropies they are involved in, what kinds of social activities they are planning for next year, etc. You can also contact them to begin the process.
IFC fraternities practice constant recruitment by holding social events, open houses, and other events throughout the year. These events are designed to allow potential new members to get to know chapter members and learn about the unique characteristics of each chapter. For the fall semester, a majority of IFC's recruitment events take place during the summer. Each chapter has it's own schedule of events, which can be found here.
The IFC Council sponsors a Recruitment Week to aid the chapters in their recruitment efforts during the fall semester. This will take place during the first 3 weeks of school. During this time, all potential new members will have the opportunity to meet every chapter. At the completion of the 3rd week, bids will be issued by the chapters and new members will begin their associate process with their new brothers.
