Standing beside the Chickasaw Warrior sculpture in the new Native
American Studies Center at East Central University are Dr. Judy Parker (from
left), Former ECU President Bill Cole, Kennedy Brown and Dr. Tom Cowger, all
speakers at the dedication of the center. Parker, an ECU professor of
nursing, is a member of the Chickasaw Tribal Legislature. She and Brown,
special assistant to Chickasaw Gov. Bill Anoatubby, are members of the
Chickasaw Foundation Board of Trustees. Cowger is an ECU professor of
history who holds the Chickasaw Nation Endowed Chair and is the director of
the Native Studies Program. The Kelly Haney sculpture is on loan from the
ECU Linscheid Library collection which was funded by Hallie Brown Ford’s
gift to furnish the new library.
