Education Program Admission Criteria
Students who are considering teacher education as a career must make application into the Teacher Education Program. Applications for admission will be completed while enrolled in EDUC 2012.
A student must meet the following criteria to be admitted to the Teacher Education Program:
Submit a completed "Admission for Teacher Education Application" form.
Have completed at least 36 hours of college work with a minimum of 20 hours in general education; by the end of the semester must have completed at least 45 credit hours.
Attain a grade point average of 2.50 or better in all college course work attempted. (Must have a grade point average of at least 2.5 to enroll in EDUC 2012)
Achieve a grade of "C" or above in ENG 1113 Freshman Composition I, ENG 1213 Freshman Composition II, and COMM 1113 Fundamentals of Speech.
Receive a favorable recommendation from an education faculty interview committee.
For Conditional Admission, achieve a liberal arts and sciences college grade point average of 3.00 or higher in all liberal arts and sciences courses OR score at or above the level designated for math, reading, and writing on the Pre- Professional Skills Test (PPST). An applicant may also qualify for conditional admission by possessing a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution in the United States. Conditional Admission is valid for one semester, after which the applicant must meet Unconditional Admission requirements. NOTE: While a student is conditionally admitted, he or she may enroll for the following semester with the understanding that enrollment may be cancelled if unconditional admission requirements are not met by the beginning of the following semester.
For Unconditional Admission, in addition to conditional admission requirements, achieve a passing score at the level required by the Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation for state certification on the Oklahoma General Education Test (OGET).
After full consideration, the applicant is (a) admitted to teacher education; (b) admitted on condition; or (c) not admitted. Applicants who are not admitted may submit written appeal to the Teacher Education Committee for a hearing and reconsideration. Appeal procedures are available in the office of the Dean of the College of Education and Psychology.
