Students in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences study in areas concerned with strengthening family life as well as training for professional careers. Courses in the department involve students in both lecture and laboratory experiences. Available to all university students, the lower-division courses of the department are quite beneficial to students majoring in any discipline. Students majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences may choose among options designed to prepare them for non-teaching careers in general family and consumer sciences and retail merchandising, or they may choose to prepare for teaching careers in a Family and Consumer Sciences program. Graduates are prepared to pursue graduate studies leading to either teaching or non-teaching careers.
