Teaching Philosophy:
" The Movement educator stands at the crossroads of the learner's world, holding one rein on creativity, one rein on novel cognition, one rein on kinesthetic growth, one rein on asthetics, another on the living process, and another on the future, and one rein on the past (Louis, 1977)." Therefore, as a tutor of kinesthetic development, I must blend each of these elements into a well-organized stew, building and reinforcing on each concept, enabling the learner to become creatively conversant, aesthetically aware, kinesthetically knowledgeable, and cognitively enlightened.

Teaching Philosophy:
I believe that theatre introduces today's students to a wide and varied web of knowledge, enabling students to become immersed in their world. Theatre education does this by teaching students persistence through giving them the tools to combat a variety of obstacles in a variety of ways and by introducing them to a variety of subjects. Furthermore, theatre education should be regarded as a general education, not a unique solution to a specific set of students. Because theatre education offers one of the few liberal arts interdisciplinary degrees with hands-on skill sets (public speaking, problem solving, funding, marketing, production, writing, client service; not to mention the technical aspects so carpentry, electrical wiring, design, and rigging), theatre education provides one of the most rounded and best hopes for those students who are undecided wherer they should be in the educational system - applying theatre's secrets to any occupation. In addition, the theatre drives its participants to work in groups and develop communication skills. This enables the theatre student to thrive in any atmosphere.

ECU is an excellent place to help people make a difference in their lives. In the classroom, I try to help people learn. Teaching Philosophy:
The theatre is about being human. I was an undergraduate mathematics major when I discovered the joy of doing theatre and changed my major. With theatre, what I did seem to matter more. I was able to affect other human beings the way I was affected and the theatre helped me to be more confident, more creative, and more human. Theatre taught me why all people were created equal, and why every person in my classroom deserves respect and the chance to succeed.

Teaching Philosophy:
Every day I try to (1) bring something substantive to class (college is for learning!), (2) present the material in an interesting, memorable manner (learning doesn't have to be boring), and (3) let the students know I care about them as individuals (without #3, the first two result in a sterile learning envirionment). I don't accomplish each of these goals in every class, but I do my best to "bring the triangle" to class each day.
