Message from the Chair, Dr. Greenstreet, Ed.D

Welcome to the ECU Communication Department! The Communication Department involves students and faculty concerned with how humans share understanding and how this dynamic process impacts individuals, societies, and the world.

Communication faculty are recognized leaders in our respective fields and are ready to assist our students whenever possible. Whether you are interested in a life in mass media, a career in advertising or public relations, teaching, performing arts, social sciences, humanities, or just working in a really interesting job, your professors are here to help. Our students may join a variety of student organizations sponsored by the Communication Department to expand their knowledge beyond the classroom.

Communication majors choose from six concentrations. Students interested in Mass Communication select from either Electronic and Print Media or Advertising/Public Relations. Students in Communication Studies select Communication Studies, Speech Education, Theatre, or Musical Theatre. Minors are offered in Mass Communication, Communication Studies, Theatre, Dance, and Media Graphic Arts. Click on your area of interest for more information on each concentration.

Our department is actively involved in most aspects of campus life. Our speech and debate program has been active for over 75 years. Our theatre program is only a few years younger. Our Mass Communication program is among the digital technology and converged media leaders in Oklahoma Higher Education. We offer the highest first-time pass rate for the secondary teacher's curriculum exam in the state. We welcome you to join our winning team.
