Welcome to Communication & Performance Studies

When the Department of Communication moved into the new Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center in the fall of 2009, we joined a newly formed School of Fine Arts.  In the fall of 2010, the Department of Communication was split into two programs:  Mass Communication and Communication and Performance Studies.   Communication and Performance Studies is comprised of the following disciplines:

THEATRE

DANCE

The ECU Communication & Performance Studies Program offers four areas of concentration to students . Communication & Performance Studies explore the ways human communication impacts individuals, societies, and the world. Communication Studies students may select from Communication Studies, Speech Teacher Education, Theatre, or Musical Theatre concentrations. Minors are offered in Communication Studies, Dance, and Theatre.

Communication & Performance Studies majors participate in a broad variety of activities. They perform and tech stage productions, represent the university in intercollegiate speech and debate competition, and participate in both the American College Theatre Festival and the American College Dance Association Festival. Whatever your interests, you are sure to find something going on in the ECU Communication and Performance Studies program.

The Program files a report with the Office of Assessment and the Office of Academic Affairs of their assessment of major each year.  These reports contain data for the past five years, analysis of trends, and judgments as to needed changes in the program.  Interested parties may access this report and its appendices below.
