Rehabilitation Option in Addictions

 

The objective of the Human Services Counseling - concentration Rehabilitation as well as the concentration Rehabilitation, option in Addiction programs is to provide the highest quality of education for those individuals who are interested in working with persons with disabilities in a variety of entry-level positions, and to prepare students for graduate studies.  We pride ourselves on the exciting opportunities many graduates of the Program have had the chance to experience.

The Program has a rich history in the field of rehabilitation, which began in 1974 with a grant from the Rehabilitation Services Administration.  The Program and ECU are known as leaders in the education of students with disabilities by having one of the most barrier-free environments in the state of Oklahoma.

The Rehabilitation Program is has been recognized by the Registry of Undergraduate Programs in Rehabilitation and Disability Studies with the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE) since 1999, and remains in good standing.  This International Registry verifies that the program is recognized as one of excellence.  ECU has the only registered undergraduate program in Oklahoma.

What is Rehabilitation?

Student involvement can be fun and adds to a sense of professionalism
Student involvement on campus, community, and professional activities are encouraged. Students may choose to:
  • Join the Student Rehabilitation Association
  • Join the Human Resources Club
  • Join FATE - Fighting Addiction Through Education
  • Join the National Rehabilitation Association and the Oklahoma Rehabilitation Association
  • Attend Disability Awareness Days!
  • Attend Professional Conference!      
  • Perform community service!
  • Take field trips to various facilities around the state
  • Listen to dynamic guest speakers with expertise in rehabilitation and disability 
 
What kind of places and jobs can I do with an undergraduate degree in Rehabilitation?
Students are employed in a variety of settings, including:
  • state/federal/American Indian Vocational Rehabilitation agencies,
  • addiction recovery centers and programs
  • community based rehabilitation centers
  • independent living centers
  • mental health facilities
  • correctional facilities 
Students hold jobs (just to name a few!) as:
