Mass Communication Labs
The East Central University Communication Department is one of the most technologically advanced departments on campus.
We feature two full computer labs consisting almost entirely of Macintosh computers. 9 G3 iMacs, 4 G4 eMacs, and 20 G4 iMacs. These two labs are used by students for writing papers, surfing the Internet, editing video and audio, and many other applications.
The new Smart Classroom, featuring 20 G4 iMacs, are loaded with the newest Adobe Creative Suit featuring Photoshop, Illustrator, GoLive, and LiveMotion. Final Cut Express is also installed on each computer. A digital MiniDV/S-VHS editing deck at each of the four pods enables users to capture and edit video as well.
The Final Cut Pro editing lab houses three Mac G4's each equipped with their own digital editing deck, broadcast preview monitor, and other peripherals. These are souly used for editing video.
The television studio houses three Panasonic studio cameras and mounts running video into the control room where the crew controls the action using by switching video, running audio, character generation, teleprompter, and lighting while viewing the results on a wall of 8 broadcast preview and program monitors.
The photography lab features a tank developing system for film as well as 8 enlarger stations equipped with individual digital timers for making prints. The lab is set up for predominantly black and white photography.
The radio lab is home to a G4 computer wired to a 24 channel sound board for audio mixing and recording. The computer runs ProTools audio editing software. The lab features audio cassette, CD, reel to reel, live microphone inputs, and many more options for recording.
Video equipment that is available for students to check out and use includes 3 Canon XL-1's, matching tripods, various microphones, field preview monitor, lighting kits, various cables and other video components.
