What is Upward Bound?
Upward Bound is a federally funded program that assists high school students in achieving academic skills and personal growth necessary for successful completion of high school and admission to a four-year university.
Do I have to have straight A's to get into the program?
No. Students at all levels are eligible.
What is the cost of the program?
All services and activities are free to eligible participants.
If accepted, do I have to reapply every year?
No. Once a student has been selected for participation in the program he or she does not have to reapply. The student will remain in the program until graduation from high school and completion of the Bridge component.
Who determines the income guidelines?
The income guidelines are determined by the federal government as it relates to family size each year.
How will Upward Bound help participants get into college?
The goal is to help students prepare, enter, and successfully complete college. The Upward Bound program helps participants academically, assistance in the college application, and the financial aid process.
What is a first-generation college student?
A first-generation student is a student whose parents or legal guardians with who they reside have not completed a bachelors' degree or higher.
Will Upward Bound pay for the student's college education after completion of the Bridge Component?
No, but Upward Bound will help the student apply for federal, state and college aid.
Do Upward Bound students have to enroll at East Central University after high school?
No, Upward Bound students are not required to enroll at East Central University. Upward Bound works with students to identify a range of colleges and universities. East Central University may be included in that range.
What is the dress code for the summer program?
Appropriate classroom attire is required.
