The goal of the PEMM Club is to promote health, physical education, recreation and

avenue to the network necessary for individual success and progress.

Phi Epsilon Kappa (Delta Phi Chapter)
Phi Epsilon Kappa (PEK) is a national professional fraternity for persons engaged in or
pursuing careers in Kinesiology or safety. Phi Epsilon Kappa
was founded on April 12, 1913 at the Normal College of the American Gymnastics
Union in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is a non-profit organization with over 100 chapters
nation-wide. ECU’s chapter, Delta Phi, was formed on May 4, 1997.
At ECU, Phi Epsilon Kappa is considered the Kinesiology Honor Organization. Members
qualify for honor designation at commencement ceremonies. This group is a way to
promote and reward the academic achievement of our majors and minors. A
committee of the PEMM Club developed the criteria for admittance to this organization
at ECU. It consists of the following:
The student must be a Kinesiology major, minor, or be working towards a teaching
endorsement in Kinesiology.
Have 24-credit hrs. completed at any college or university with 9-credit hrs. in
Kinesiology completed at ECU.
Maintain an overall GPA of 3.3 or above.
Must be a member of OAHPERD and/or PEMM Club.
If you meet the above criteria, you are qualified to join PEK. To put your mind at rest
about time commitment, membership would only be an honor designation and all
activities would be in conjunction with regular PEMM Club activities. An annual
reception and new member induction would be the only activity exclusively for PEK
members. The induction ceremony is a special event and you will want to participate.
Another feature of the group is that faculty members in Kinesiology are also members.
Potential new members of this organization are selected annually in the Spring and sent
applications. Your academic work is important to us and we want to use the PEK
organization to reward you for your success in this area. If you have questions, please
feel free to contact the faculty sponsor, Dr. Susan Payne at (580) 559-5521
