Electronic Resources By Description

All services listed below are accessible from workstations located on the East Central University campus, as well as remote access to ECU students, faculty, and staff. For remote access, all you need is your name and six-digit ECU ID number (found on the back of your ECU ID)

EBSCOHost: The majority of the EBSCOHost databases are available to the East Central University campus through the Oklahoma Department of Libraries (ODL). EBSCOHost provides access to the full text of over 6,000 journals and periodicals in the fields of education, business, health, law, and other academic disciplines. For those not affiliated with ECU, access to EBSCOHost is limited to the workstations located in the Linscheid Library, or contact the Oklahoma Department of Libraries (ODL) for remote access. Following is a listing of databases available through EBSCOHost:  

Accounting Research Manager: a comprehensive financial reporting knowledgebase that provides materials designed to help solve your most pressing issues. Updated daily, it is the most timely, complete, interpretive and objective resource for your financial reporting needs.

ACM (Association for Computing Machinery)Digital Libary: A collection of citations and full text from ACM journal and newsletter articles and conference proceedings.

ACS (American Chemical Society) Journals Search: provides searching capability for 33 ACS journals with full-text from 1996 to the present.  Allows for searching by citation, specific journal, timeframe, and basic searches (author, title, keyword or phrase).

American Indian History Online:  Facts On File's American Indian History Online database offers fast access to more than 15,000 years of culture and history through event and topic entries, biographies, images, maps and charts, legends, primary sources, and timeline entries. Derived from many of Facts On File's critically acclaimed print titles, this award-winning database is both authoritative and accessible.

Books in Print w/Reviews: Includes approximately 2.5 million bindings for books that are in print, forthcoming, or declared out-of-print or out-of-stock indefinitely since 1979, as well as more than 500,000 full text reviews. Also includes Books Out of Print.

CCH Internet Tax Research Network: Look to CCH for authoritative federal tax information that fits your research style. Choose Code-organized, topically arranged or concise analysis from among the Federal Tax Libraries. CCH sets the standard for state tax research. The State Tax Reporters and topical Multistate Guides supply the most complete and current analysis available, and the archives are the best in the business. Children's Literature Review: Includes Cumulative indexes to authors, titles, and criticism.

EJS puts all the e-journals made available to you by your library in a single place on the Web, so you don't have to jump all over the place to find the articles you need.

Encyclopedia of Popular Music:  Featuring a broad musical scope covering popular music of all genres and periods from 1900 to the present day, including jazz, country, folk, rap, reggae, techno, musicals, and world music, the Encyclopedia also offers thousands of additional entries covering popular music genres, trends, styles, record labels, venues, and music festivals. Key dates, biographies, and further reading are provided for artists covered, along with complete discographies that include record labels, release dates, and a 5-star album rating system.

Grove Music Online: The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians is an encyclopedia of over 29,000 articles drawing on the expertise of over 6,000 international contributors.  New major biographies have been written to reflect the most recent research.  Contemporary thinking is reflected in articles on new topics reflecting the psychology and philosophy of music, and in topics entirely new to Grove including: Deconstruction, Postmodernism, Gender and Sexuality, Feminism, Women in Music, Gay and Lesbian Music, Marxism, and Nazism.  New and expanded biographies of 20th-century composers have been written including 2,300 composers from eastern and central Europe and the former Soviet Union, Latin America, Asia (including China for the first time) and sub-Saharan Africa.

InfoTrac (Thomson Gale Virtual Reference): Provides searchable, full-text access to Children's Literature Review (v.93-), Contemporary Authors (v.206-), Contemporary Authors, New Revision Series (v.114-), and Something About the Author (v.148-).

International Index to Music Periodicals: IIMP Full Text draws its current content from more than 370 international music periodicals from over 20 countries with over 60 Full Text titles. IIMP Full Text also includes retrospective coverage from over 185 periodicals dating back as far as 1874. Included in the current and retrospective content are 29 complete-run titles, from inception to the present (or final) issue, and many partial run titles.

JSTOR: The Arts & Sciences I-IV and Complement collections include the complete back runs of over 550 journal titles in the following disciplines: economics, history, political science, sociology, other key fields in the humanities and social sciences, Asian studies, archaeology, classics, African, Latin American, Middle Eastern, and Slavic studies, history and study of art and architecture, law, psychology, and public policy and administration.

Kirkus Reviews: Founded in 1933, is published 24 times annually and reviews, three to four months pre-publication, approximately 5,000 titles per year: fiction, mysteries, sci-fi, translations, nonfiction, and children's books. The reviews are reliable and authoritative, written by specialists selected for their knowledge and expertise in a particular field. 

Literary Criticism Online: provides critical reviews for Contemporary and Twentienth Century Literary criticisms.

Magill's Medical Guide: Provides general readers with an authoritative reference source that helps bridge the gap between medical encyclopedias for professionals and popular self-help guides

Micromedex Healthcare Series: Provides the world's most trusted information for healthcare, safety, and the environment.  The series also provides drug, disease, acute care, toxicology, alternative medicine, as well as a comprehensive tool to educate patients.

Milestone Documents in American History: Provides primary source documents with expert analysis and commentary.

NewsBank: The NewsBank Collection is a full-text news resource consisting of regional, national and international sources. The collection contains articles of interest from over 1200 newspapers and newswires.  The Daily Oklahoman (1982-present) and Tulsa World  (1989-present) sections contain cover-to-cover articles.

Examples of newspapers covered in the NewsFile Collection are: Arizona Republic, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, Denver Post, Fort Worth Star Telegram, Indianapolis Star News, San Francisco Chronicle, St. Louis Post Dispatch, Los Angeles Times, Houston Chronicle, Dallas Morning News, Milwaukee Journal, Kansas City Star, Washington Times, Boston Herald, New York Times, etc.

Oklahoma Periodicals Index: Provides a searchable online index to articles from The Chronicles of OKlahoma, Oklahoma Today, Outdoor Oklahoma, and Persimmon Hill. Issues for 2000 to the present are fully indexed. Issues for 1999 and earlier are currently being entered, and keywords and subject headings will be added gradually as part of a retrospective project. Indexers have excluded reviews, editorials, photo essays and some minor articles.

Oklahoman Archives: The Oklahoman Archives contain over 2.2 million pages in 37,000 issues spanning September 25, 1901, to present. Issues prior to September 2001 are converted microfilm. More recent issues are full-color. The contents of all issues are fully text searchable and reflect the full context and layout of each page.

Oxford Companion to Music:  In articles that range from clear, concise definitions of musical ideas and terms to extended surveys of musical forms and styles, is authoritative coverage of virtually every musical subject. Embracing the world of music in all its variety — including jazz, popular music, and dance — the Companion offers a concentrated focus on the Western classic tradition, from the Middle Ages to the present day.

R2 Library (for Nursing):R2 is a web-based application that aggregates health sciences book content from leading publishers in a single platform. This service is available exclusively through hospital, academic, and institutional libraries.

Research in Dance Education: The RDEdb comprises over 3,000 studies in dance education collected from 1926-present. The unique tool allows users to analyze patterns, trends, gaps, future directions, and add new research at a level never before possible.

SIRS Discoverer: An award-winning database designed with the young researcher in mind. This interactive tool strengthens research, reading, writing and computer skills. Articles and graphics from more than 1,400 U.S. and international magazines, newspapers and U.S. government documents are carefully selected for their educational content, interest and level of readability. Because it includes middle and elementary curriculum topics, Discoverer can be easily integrated into classroom activities.

Something About the Author: Provides facts and pictures about contemporary authors and illustrators of books for young people.

SORA, Searchable Ornithological Research Archive: The SORA project is an open access electronic journal archive and is the product of a collaboration between the American Ornithologists Union, the Cooper Ornithological Society, the Association of Field Ornithologists, the Wilson Ornithological Society and the University of New Mexico libraries and IT department. This archive provides access to an extensive Ornithological literature of international scope, and detailed material documenting the history of Ornithology in North America over the last 120 years. The content of this site includes the following titles: The Auk (1884-1999), The Condor (1899-2000), The Journal of Field Ornithology (1930-1999), The North American Bird Bander (1976-2000), Pacific Coast Avifauna (1900-1974), Studies in Avian Biology (1978-1999), and The Wilson Bulletin (1889-1999).

U.S. Congressional Serial Set:  The U.S. Congressional Serial Set, commonly referred to as the Serial Set, contains the House and Senate Documents and the House and Senate Reports bound by session of Congress. It began publication with the 15th Congress, 1st Session (1817). Documents before 1817 may be found in the American State Papers. In general, it includes: committee reports related to bills and other matters, presidential communications to Congress, treaty materials, certain executive department publications, and certain non-governmental publications.

Westlaw Paralegal: An online legal research service providing quick, easy access to West's vast collection of statutes, case law materials, public records and other legal resources, as well as current news articles and business information.

WorldCat:  Records of any type of material cataloged by OCLC member libraries.  Includes manuscripts written as early as the 12th century.
