Research Poster Tips and Templates

This page includes the link to East Central University’s research poster template in Microsoft PowerPoint format.  It is set up to create a 40”x30” horizontal poster.  If you are going to make a different sized poster, you need to change the measurements under Page Setup before you begin working on your poster.

The banner will be standard for all East Central University research posters. The only thing that will change will be the textbox that includes the title of the research project and the names of the participants.  The font style and color of the title will remain the same, but the size may be changed to fit the length of your title.

Traditional headings are included in textboxes for your convenience.  The text of these headings (as well as the font style, size and color), and the location of the boxes is up to you.  You may copy and paste as you wish, but make sure that your fonts are consistent throughout your poster.

When text is pasted, the textbox will automatically fit the new text.  When highlighted, you can use the handles to stretch or squeeze the box to a useable size for your poster.  You can also drag a textbox to any location on your poster background.

You also have control over the background colors for both the overall poster and individual textboxes.  These can be changed in the format-background drop-down color menu.  When you change font and background colors, make sure that your text will be easily viewable (e.g. black text against a light background).

How to import from Excel and Word

Excel – select the chart, hit edit-copy, and then edit-paste into PowerPoint.  The chart can then be stretched to fit as required.  If you need to edit parts of the chart, it can be ungrouped.
