Reserves Department
The reserves collection contains books, journal articles, tests and other items selected by faculty for use by their students. Because these items are in high demand, they are placed "on reserve" so that many students can use them. Linscheid Library maintains traditional (paper) reserves and electronic reserves.
Traditional reserve items may be checked out at the Circulation Desk. Patrons will need to present their current East Central University ID to check out reserve materials. The loan periods for traditional reserve items range from two hours to seven days. Some traditional reserve items are restricted to library use only. These items may be checked out and read or photocopied, but must remain in the library. The library has several photocopiers available for public use.
Are you a faculty member wanting to place something on reserve?
Please note the following guidelines:
- Traditional and electronic reserves require completion of the Reserve Request Form.
- The format for electronic reserve materials is as follows:
- Please provide either single-sided photocopies of the article, book chapter, or handwritten page, or scans of the documents on CD or via email attachment
- Your photocopy or scan should include the title page and copyright information for the material.
- Linscheid Library complies with the U.S. Code: Title 17, Section 107 governing Fair Use. This means that all materials placed on reserve will conform to the following guidelines:
- No more than 10% of the total pages of a book or one chapter from a book.
- No more than one article from one journal issue or newspaper issue per course.
- No more than one short story, short essay or short poem from any given collection or anthology.

If you need to place material on electronic reserve that does not comply with these guidelines, please contact the Reserves Librarian at 580-559-5370 to ask about obtaining copyright permissions.
- Please allow 5 days for your request to be processed.
- All electronic files will be removed from the reserve system at the end of each semester. Linscheid Library will not provide access to electronic reserves for inactive courses at any time. Materials placed on reserve for any subsequent semester for the same
