OKULS 50% RULE

If my library has all the 1998 and 2000 issues of a monthly periodical, but only numbers 1,2,3,4, and 10 of 1999, what do I report?

Report only your 1998 and 2000 holdings for that title.

Why?

You do not own 50% of the 1999 Volume.

Keep this in mind:

If the title ends publication or changes title with number 3 in 2001, then you would report the volume for 2001.

Why?

Numbers 1-3 would constitute the entire volume published in 2001 for that particular title.  Hence, if 1998 was vol.35, 1999 vol.36, 2000 v.37, and 2001 v.38, the holdings statement would read:

v.35,v.37-v.38   1998,2000-2001

(Remember, 50% of 1999 is not owned)

Note: If the title did not cease with no.3 in 2001, the LHR would be:

v.35,v.37-   1998,2000-
