SIGALO
Serials Interest Group
for Academic Librarians in Oklahoma
April 3, 1998
John Vaughan Library
Northeastern State
University
Tahlequah, Oklahoma
Linda West, Technical
Services Director and Webmaster at NSU
hosted the meeting, Bela Foltin, Library
Director, welcomed the group to the John
Vaughan Library and NSU.
Janet Hughes moderated
the introductions and roundtable
discussion: "Which equipment
are you using for fiche and film
reproduction? How do students
pay?" A lively discussion
followed. Most librarians have
coin op microfilm/fiche machines and
charge 10-15 cents. The most
common machine in use was the Minolta
RP605Z. Digital Machines seem to
use more toner than others.
Linda West and the
library staff gave tours of the John
Vaughan Library. One of the most
interesting places was the staff room
where they post the library goals each
year. They were feeling festive
last year and selected the following
goals: New products Online
Education Learning. The morning
session closed with group going to
Lunch.
The afternoon meeting
opened with Nancy Jurney, who moderated
member news. Updates, want lists,
exchange lists, etc. were offered by
members.
Victoria Swinney
introduced the afternoon program.
Linda West shared her knowledge on
"Useful Web Sites for Serials
Librarians". We traveled the
Internet with Linda and marveled at the
ease of access. Linda provided a
listing of resources for Librarian's
available on the Web covering
acquisitions, serials, and general
technical services for a library and
cataloging.
Martha Woltz chaired the
business meeting. Minutes were
approved as written. Starla
Doescher and Judith Rigsby agreed to
serve on the program and were duly
elected for the 1998/2000 term.
Martha Woltz and Nancy Jurney were
thanked for the great leadership during
the last two years.
Judith Wilkerson, from
the task force on electron journals,
reported on the systems available.
The task forced made a motion that the
Project Muse by Academic Ideal be
recommended. Motion was approved.
