The fall 1997 meeting of SIGALO was held at the Robert M. Bird Health Sciences Library Auditorium in Oklahoma City on November 14.  Judith Wilkerson, Head of Serials Services, was the host.  Marty Thompson, the library director, welcomed the group to the OUHSC library.

Victoria Swinney moderated the introductions and roundtable discussion:  Everything You Wanted to Know about Electronic Journals and FirstSearch, but Didn't Know to Ask.

Judith Wilkerson gave a tour of the Health Sciences Center Library before lunch.

After lunch, the member news portion was moderated by Nancy Jurney.  Judith Wilkerson reported on efforts to assist the Colorado State University Libraries in obtaining materials after a flood destroyed most of its collection.

Starla Doescher, Head of Acquisitions at OU, and Judith Wilkerson presented the afternoon program, SELECTING A BINDERY.  They described the process of selecting a new bindery from the request for proposals to evaluating pricing for various services and the quality of samples provided by those who submitted proposals.  Samples of worksheets were provided for the group.

During the business meeting, chaired by Martha Woltz, Janet Hughes from the OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine Library was elected to the 1997-99 term on the program team which Donna Denniston is unable to complete.

Judith Wilkerson proposed that a taskforce on electronic journals be formed to study the issue and report to SIGALO.  SIGALO may wish to make recommendations to the Oklahoma Council of Academic Library Directors and/or the Oklahoma Library Technology Network on the need for a consortia for electronic journals.  Colleen Ward, Jim Wilkerson, and Tamie Willis agreed to serve on the task force which Judith Wilkerson will chair.

Suggestions for future programs included the following:  additional training in updating holdings on the Oklahoma Union List of Serials and technical service web sites and tools.
