Pi Sigma Alpha
Membership in Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor
society, offers students the opportunity to make the most of their academic
careers. To qualify, candidates must have a 3.0 GPA in 12 hours of political
science (including American Government 1113). The membership fee is $30.00,
due each February 1. New members are initiated during our Spring Awards
Program.
For the last four years, the Rho Beta chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha at ECU has
sponsored an essay contest for ECU and area high school students. We have
also participated in Get-Out-The-Vote activities and other political
programs. During Spring, 2005, we will use our Chapter Activity Grant to
sponsor the Week of Work in Ada. Community-clean up projects will be
centered in Ada's Hammond Heights Area.

Academic organization open to ECU students interested in law and government.
The Legal Professions Association was established to
bring students with a common interest in careers in a variety of aspects of
law together. Most members hope to achieve careers as legal
paraprofessionals or attorneys, but anyone with an interest in the law or
law-related fields is welcome.
One of the major events sponsored by the LPA every
year is ECU Law Day. Law day provides a forum where law school admissions
officers, practicing attorneys, legal paraprofessionals, and students can
come together to exchange information and find out about careers in law.
Oklahoma Model United Nations
Model United Nations is a simulation of the
United Nations. It is a full immersion, experiential learning process that
offers students an opportunity to play the role of diplomats from over 150
countries around the world. Participating in Model U.N. affords students a
marvelous opportunity to learn about other cultures, countries, and their
politics in a setting that is both fun and challenging.
Students enroll in PS 2881 - Special Studies:
Model United Nations in both the Fall and Spring Semesters. Fall semester is
spent selecting the country (or countries) we will represent; learning about
the culture, history, and current politics of that country; and preparing
and practicing debating resolutions designed to further that country's
interests in the Model U.N. During the Spring semester, students attend the
Model United Nations of the Southwest, held at the Kellogg Center on the
campus of the University of Oklahoma, in Norman.
Not only can you earn credit toward graduation, but you can have a lot of
fun doing it!

Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature
The Oklahoma Intercollegiate Legislature is a hands-on, full immersion
simulation of Oklahoma State Government. Student representatives and
senators are apportioned among Oklahoma's colleges and universities in a
manner analogous to political apportionment in the state of Oklahoma.
Utilizing the actual chambers of government (when not in use by real
politicians) students travel to the State Capitol for five days of intensive
law-making during the Fall and Spring semesters.
ECU students may enroll in PS 2881 - Special Studies: Oklahoma
Intercollegiate Legislature, for one credit hour each semester.
