I believe that today, right now, is the
most exciting time I have ever experienced to enter the Profession of
Nursing! I have been an RN for over 30 years and a nurse educator for
some 27 years, and there are opportunities for current graduates of our
program that were not even dreamed of five years ago. As Chair of the
Department of Nursing since 2002, it’s been my privilege to work with a
group of highly dedicated and supremely qualified nursing faculty. My
basic nursing education consisted of a diploma program at St. Elizabeth
Hospital School of Nursing in Utica NY. I went back for a BS in Nursing
from SUNY at Utica/Rome NY and then a Masters of Science in Nursing from
SUNY at Buffalo NY. My Ph.D is from the University of North Texas,
Denton TX. I remain professional involved and participate in a number of
state wide activities including the Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps
Nurses Disaster Preparedness team, serving as President of ONA Region 6,
participating in the ANA Ethics and Human Rights Committee and serving
on the Governor’s Council on Healthcare Workforce Committee on Education
and Training. On of my most enjoyable extra curricular activities is
serving as the faculty advisor for the East Central University Nursing
Student Association.
