I call the gypsum hills of northwest Oklahoma and the Ozarks of north Arkansas home. Both landscapes have shaped me and continue to inform me. When I am not wandering the prairies and valleys or flyfishing the streams of those places, I am fortunate enough to be reading and writing. Much of my creative writing follows these places, and I am increasingly interested in the emphasis of place in literary expression in my research. I teach humanities courses such as Ethnic Lit, World Religion, Philosophy, and I teach American literatures, primarily from the 19th century forward. My dissertation interprets Cormac McCarthy’s Border Trilogy. I hold a M.Div. degree and a Ph.D. in Humanities/Literature from The University of Texas-Arlington. In addition to teaching and researching, I have involved myself in the annual Scissortail Creative Writing Festival held the first weekend of April at ECU. I also serve as a “Review Scholar” for the Red Dirt Book Festival, held in Shawnee. Finally, I am the area chair for Literature, Ecocriticism and the Environment for the SW/Texas Popular Culture Association meeting held each February in Albuquerque.
