The East Central University English Department and the Center of Continuing Education and Community Services will host its annual ECU Literary Arts Festival on Thursday, Nov. 6, at the Dorothy J. Summers Auditorium as part of the Scissortail Arts Series. The keynote presentation of the day will be provided by Oklahoma Centennial Poet Laureate, Dr. N. Scott Momaday. The Oklahoma Poet Laureate Program is facilitated by the Oklahoma Humanities Council on behalf of the governor.

Momaday is a member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma and a poet, novelist, playwright, artist and storyteller. He holds a doctoral degree from Stanford University. Momaday's first book, House Made of Dawn, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize. He is scheduled to speak at noon and the session will be open to the public.

The Literary Arts Festival will feature two workshops for teachers presented by the Oklahoma Writing Project. The OWP is an affiliate of the National Writing Project and is dedicated to improving the quality of composition instruction in elementary and secondary schools.

Also offered at the event will be a series of general sessions and numerous breakout sessions provided by members of the ECU English faculty for high school students and teachers. Space is limited during these sessions so early registration is encouraged. Registration will begin in September and can be done online.
