Hello East Central students, I
am your Student Senate President, Lauren Hensley. I just wanted to give you
all an end of the semester recap as to what your Student Senate has been
doing.
We started off the year by hosting a tailgate, which
had free food at the Family Day football game. At that football game we also
presented a resolution in conjunction with the CVA honoring the Veterans of
the current wars in the Middle East.
The Senate was also given a new task this year. We were
given the job of organizing the Homecoming Coronation. We took care of all
the candidate applications and interviews, as well as organizing rehearsals
and making sure the actual event went well. We are pleased that it did!
We also passed a resolution recognizing Domestic
Violence Awareness and Crime Prevention Day. That resolution was read at an
event on campus. In addition, East Central was well represented by its
Student Senate at the Student Leadership Retreat in Tulsa. While at the
retreat, we were able to sit in sessions and gain very useful information
about how to better represent our university. Also I personally have been
attending the Council of Student Body Presidents meeting in OKC to make sure
that ECU’s interests are represented and that we stay in the know as to what
other universities are doing.
Most recently Minority Representative Jonathan Lozier
and I attended the Oklahoma Student Government Associations Fall Congress
and had a great experience. We were able to discuss many important state
issues that affect higher education. The resolutions passed at Fall Congress
are heard by the Oklahoma State Congress and it is a voice for the students.
I know I speak for the entire Student Senate when I say how pleased we are
to have been able to represent you all this semester.
We are ready to work even harder next semester and I
hope that you will all be in contact with the Senate to let us know any way
we can help make your college experience better. I hope you all have a
wonderful Holiday Season.
