Eligibility Requirements
Eligibility requirements for the Veterans Upward Bound Program is the determined by the US Department of Education. Read on to see if you qualify:
A VUB Participant:
MUST BE A CITIZEN· A citizen or national of the United States; or· A permanent resident of the United States; or· In the United States for other than a temporary purpose and provides evidence from the Immigration and Naturalization Service of his or her intent to become a permanent resident; or· Is a permanent resident of Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, or the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands; or· Is a resident of the Freely Associated States – the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, or the Republic of Palau.MUST BE A VETERAN· Who served for a period of more than 180 days, any part of which occurred after January 31, 1955, and who was discharged or released from active duty under conditions other than dishonorable; or· After January 31, 1955, and who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.MUST BE LOW INCOME AND/OR FIRST GENERATION· Income levels are based on taxable income and are set by the U. S. Department of Education.· First generation means neither parent nor guardian has a Baccalaureate Degree.MUST LIVE IN THE TARGET AREA· Target area includes the following 5 counties in Oklahoma: Carter, Comanche, Murray, Pontotoc, and Stephens.MUST HAVE A NEED FOR OUR ACADEMIC SERVICES· Academic Need includes but is not limited to refresher or remedial services in English, Math, Science, Reading, Writing, Computer Skills, and/or a foreign language. Subject areas in which VUB offers academic services.
