Dr. Copeland earned a Bachelor of Art in Criminal Justice from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1993 and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma in 1997. In addition, he completed all requirements except the dissertation for a PhD in Criminal Justice at Rutgers University. From 1998 to 2003, Dr. Copeland was an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Fort Hayes State University in Kansas. He left Fort Hayes State University in 2003 to establish his law private practice in Durant, which he maintained until 1998. From 2008 to 2010 he served as Assistant Attorney General for the Republic of Palu, located in the western Pacific Ocean; he focused upon criminal prosecution. From December 2010 to 2013, he has been Director of the Anti-Fraud Unit at the Oklahoma Insurance Department. Dr. Copeland has eight publications in professional journals and books and has presented six papers at professional meetings. He offers the Criminal Justice program a unique mix of practical legal and law enforcement experience and several years of successful university teaching experience.
