    Noted percussionists will conduct clinics and three percussion ensembles will perform concerts Saturday [APRIL 19] during East Central University’s third annual Day of Percussion.

    All events are free and open to the public. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. in ECU's University Center and door prizes will be awarded at each session.

    Three Oklahoma Teachers of the Year will be inducted into the Gene and Evelyn Keefer ECU Educators Hall of Fame at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday [APRIL 16] in East Central University's Danley Hall atrium.

    The inductees are Pat Kellogg Roller, George E. Abshire and Stephanie Canada, the current Oklahoma Teacher of the Year.

    An endowment has been established in the East Central University Foundation Inc. by Richard and Sharon Bays of Davis in honor and memory of their daughter, Shelby Jane Bays.

    The Shelby Jane Bays Memorial Scholarship will be awarded each year to an upper division student who is preparing for a career in dentistry or the medical profession. Priority will be given to students majoring in biology, physics or chemistry, in that order.

    Vickie Luster, a member of the Johnston County Historical Society, will present a program on quilting and the Underground Railroad Monday [APRIL 14] to members of Phi Delta Kappa professional education association at East Central University. The meeting is open to the public and will begin at 4 p.m. in the Danley Hall atrium.

    A number of business and community volunteers are planning to read to youngsters in child care centers throughout Ada next week [APRIL 14-18] during the national Week of the Young Child, a time that honors young children and all those who make a difference in children's lives.

    East Central University's Child Care Resource & Referral office has asked Ada to come together for children during the week that will be observed nationally from April 13-19.

    Canadian flutist Dr. Conor Nelson will perform and teach a master class for flute majors Monday [APRIL 14] at East Central University The performance is open to the public and will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the ECU band room in the Instrumental Music Building.

    The short performance will include Sigfried Karg-Elert's "Sonata Appassionata" and Shulamit Ran's "East Wind for Solo Flute."

    Four artists will give demonstrations on various media and processes in a 4 in 4 Workshop April 19 [SATURDAY] in East Central University's Art Department.

    Featured artists Gail Ayers, Mark Etier, Wayneath Weddle and Aaron Hauck will give participants an opportunity to share knowledge and gain exposure to unusual techniques or methods.
