    ADA – Visualizing Evil: Moral Monstrosity in Medieval and Renaissance Art will be the topic at East Central University’s Third Annual Lockmiller Lecture in Art History on Tuesday, April 8, at 4 p.m. in the Estep Center of the Bill S. Cole University Center.

    Dr. Anne Derbes, professor emeritus of art history at Hood College (Md.), will be making the presentation.

    ADA – John Gaines took perhaps the most unlikely path toward obtaining a bachelor’s degree from East Central University in 2011.

    Gaines will share his story on Monday, April 7, in the Parker Ethics Lecture at 3 p.m. in Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center on the ECU campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.

    ADA – Major Barbara, a three-act play by George Bernard Shaw, will be presented by the East Central University Theatre Department on April 10-12 in the Chalmers Herman Theatre of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

    Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. each night with an additional matinee performance set for Saturday, April 12 at 2 p.m.

    Major Barbara was written and premiered in 1905 and was first published in 1907. This version of the play will be updated to the present, according to Dr. Richard Groetzinger, ECU director of theatre.

    ADA – All legacies begin with someone and for the Hargraves at East Central University it was Justice Rudolph Hargrave.

    Rudolph Hargrave, Retired Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the State of Oklahoma, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday at the age of 89. The thoughts of the ECU community toward the elder Hargrave, is certain to have far-reaching effects for years to come.

    ADA – The Ninth Annual Scissortail Creative Writing Festival, featuring Nathan Brown, Carolyne Wright, James Hoggard and Jonas Zdanys, along with more than 50 author presentations from Oklahoma and beyond, is set for April 3-5 at East Central University.

    The event is free and open to the public. The festival begins at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, while on Friday and Saturday, April 4-5, the event begins at 9 a.m.

    ADA – Jan Long’s intermediate construction (sewing) class is showing compassion toward underprivileged children far away and learning some valuable career tools in the process.

    ADA – East Central University will host its Transfer Enrollment Day on Wednesday, April 9, at ECU’s Bill S. Cole University Center, beginning with a 12:30 p.m. check-in.

    Students will have the opportunity to view the campus, meet with staff members from multiple departments on campus and enroll with a faculty advisor for the summer and fall semesters.

    ADA – East Central University was recently recognized as an Oklahoma Certified Healthy Campus by the Oklahoma Turning Point Council. In order to achieve certified healthy campus status, institutions of higher learning and career technology centers made outstanding efforts and achievements in actively creating a safe and healthy environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors.
