    East Central University’s Tiger Speech and Debate Team brings a live parliamentary debate, featuring the National British Debate Team, to the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. in the ECU Foundation Hall.

    The debate is free and open to the public.

    In addition to the debate, a workshop will be held the same day from 2-4 p.m. in Room 103 of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    Experience the finest of English drama without traveling thousands of miles as ECU SCREENS presents three Royal National Theatre recorded-live stage performances this fall.

    The screenings range from classic literary masterpieces to popular contemporary works. All are open to the public.

    The East Central University College of Education and Psychology will celebrate the opening of its remodeled building with a formal dedication, ribbon-cutting and tours, beginning at 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1.

    The dedication, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, will take place next door in the atrium of the Linscheid Library at 4 p.m. Tours of the remodeled facility will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

    Veterans now have the opportunities and tools to achieve a higher-education degree at East Central University, thanks to a $1.1 million ($220,000 per year) Veterans Student Support Services Grant through the U.S. Department of Education.

    The TRIO grant, set up for an initial five-year run, led to the establishment of the Veterans Student Support Services Office on campus, Sept. 1. Jill Williamson is the interim director and Clint Fisher is the program coordinator.

    Petronel Malan, a multiple Grammy nominee and gold medalist of several international piano competitions, will perform a free concert Thursday, Oct. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Ada Arts and Heritage Center.

    In addition to the Oct. 1 performance, Malan will be conducting a master class to East Central University students at noon, Oct. 2, in the Faust Auditorium. That is free and open to the public as well.

    Described as formidable…dizzying…magical by New York reviewer Harris Goldsmith, Malan brings a uniquely captivating style and continuously enthralls audiences worldwide.

    It was a summer of performing abroad for East Central University’s Nathaniel Berman and first-year ECU instructor Alexandra Aguirre.

    The pair had the honor to play as part of a flute trio with Brielle Frost, of Greeley, Colo., at the Festival Internacional de Flautistas in Lima, Peru this summer as well as playing at the World Saxophone Congress in Strasbourg, France.

    East Central University welcomed a large freshman class, with 752 new students, for the fall 2015 semester, it was announced recently by the university.

    ECU also enrolled 360 international students, including those returning, which is up by 116 from 244 for the 2014-15 school year.

    The acclaimed Chicago Tap Theatre will bring the Chicago Jazz Club experience to East Central University’s Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, by recreating the sights and sounds of a smoke-filled Chicago supper club with internationally-acclaimed dance works and music.
