A free family night at the Wintersmith Park pool and splash park will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. June 17 [THURSDAY]. The event is a project of Smart Start South Central, an early childhood initiative based at East Central University.

Dr. Christopher Bean, assistant professor of history and Native American studies at East Central University, was honored earlier this spring by the Texas State Historical Association.
He received the H. Bailey Carroll Award for the best article that appeared in the association's Southwestern Historical Quarterly publication. His article was titled "Death of a Carpetbagger: The George Washington Smith Murder and Stockade Trial in Jefferson, Texas, 1868-1869."

Two families who are connected by football as well as marriage have been recognized as East Central University's 2010 Distinguished Family.
The combined Clements-Compton family was selected for playing an identifiable and significant role in the success of ECU as well as their respective communities.

Healthcare certification courses will be taught on the East Central University campus beginning June 21 by ECU's Continuing Professional Education Program.
The instructor-led courses are Medical Billing and Coding, the EKG Technician Certification Program, Pharmacy Technician Certification and Phlebotomy Technician Certification.

A "sneak peek" opening will be held for Dallas artist Ron Clark's current series, Impending Presence, from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday [MEMORIAL DAY] in the Pogue Art Gallery in East Central University's Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.
Clark, a native of Idabel, will be at the gallery. The formal opening reception for the artist will be from 6 to 8 p.m. June 4 [FRIDAY]. The exhibit runs from Tuesday [JUNE 1] through July 28. Gallery hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.
