    The 2012 Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner, hosted by the East Central University Human Resources Club, will take place on Monday, Nov. 19, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Pontotoc County Agriplex, located at 1710 N. Broadway in Ada.

    The meal is free to everyone in the Ada community as turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, rolls and dessert will be served.

    The East Central University Dance Ensemble, Collage, is currently engaged in fundraising efforts in support of an artist-in-residency project. The ensemble is offering academic year calendars at a cost of $8. The project will provide support fees/expenses to bring Jon Lehrer of LehrerDance, of Buffalo, N.Y., to the ECU campus. Lehrer will set new work and conduct a four-day intensive clinic to Collage members.

    Dr. Norman Frame, Phyllis Danley, Mary Ann Frame and Bill Frame

    Friends, family members and former colleagues of Dr. Norman Frame were on hand to witness the dedication of a commemorative bench honoring the former East Central University professor of education on Nov. 3.

    The new bench joins approximately 30 memorial benches in the Frank R. Crabtree, Sr. Honor Plaza.

    Frame came to Ada and ECU in 1964 from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan. At ECU, he served as director of elementary education. He also taught elementary school methods courses in mathematics, reading, language arts and elementary curriculum.

    High school juniors and seniors have the opportunity to learn what it’s like to be a college student at East Central University by participating in Tiger Connection on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

    Tiger Connection is designed for prospective students to visit campus and meet with students, faculty and staff as well as connect with other potential ECU Tigers.

    Eleven local and area teachers will be honored at a reception and Oklahoma State Teacher of the Year Elaine Hutchison will speak at the annual Marvin Stokes Endowed Lecture on Monday, Nov. 5, at East Central University.

    The eleven teachers will be honored with a reception at the Oklahoma Regents Room of the ECU Student Union from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Immediately following the reception, Hutchison will deliver the Stokes Lecture in the Estep Auditorium of the Bill S. Cole University Center at 6:30 p.m.

    Dr. Pat Fountain

    East Central University business professor Dr. Pat Fountain was recently named Community Engagement Professional of the Year, it was recently announced at the 2012 Heartland Conference in St. Louis, Mo.

    The award was presented by the Oklahoma Campus Compact organization.

    It recognizes one professional from a member campus in Oklahoma, who has worked toward the institutionalization of academic service-learning.

    Dr. Christine Pappas

    Dr. Christine Pappas, associate professor of political science and legal studies at East Central University, has been elected to the National Pi Sigma Alpha Executive Council, it was recently announced.

    Pi Sigma Alpha is the National Political Science Honor Society and Pappas has served as ECU advisor since 2001. She is one of 12 members named to the executive council for 2012-2014.

    Dr. Tess Remy-Schumacher, Starla Hibler, Theodora Morris and Dr. Ralph Morris

    Three members of the string faculty from the University of Central Oklahoma, along with East Central University’s Starla Hibler, will perform a concert of Baroque chamber music on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ada Arts and Heritage Center, 14th and Rennie, in Ada.

    Hibler will be joined by UCO faculty members Dr. Tess Remy-Schumacher, Dr. Ralph Morris and Theodora Morris.

    The concert is free and open to the public.
