    The Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner that serves turkey, ham, vegetables, hot rolls and desserts to more than 3,000 people will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 24 [MONDAY] at the Pontotoc County Agri-Plex on North Broadway.

    The dinner is organized annually by members of the Human Resources Club at East Central University, with help from volunteers throughout the community.

    Justin Jones, director of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, will speak at East Central University on Monday [NOV. 10].

    Jones, a graduate of ECU, will speak to combined criminal justice classes about the DOC's opportunities and challenges at 10 a.m. in the Estep Multimedia Center. His presentation is open to all students and the public.

    Twenty-eight cartography and geography majors at East Central University and their three faculty members left their classrooms for the geography of the Oklahoma panhandle recently to attend the Oklahoma Academy of Science (OAS) Fall Field Meeting.

    East Central University has a $143 million impact on Oklahoma’s economy, according to a statewide analysis conducted by Regional Economic Models Inc. for the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

    The study shows that individual institutions of higher education are a vital economic engine, and the resources invested in them have a high rate of return and contribute to improved economic prosperity for their communities.

    Flutist Juliana Overmier, an adjunct instructor of music at East Central University, will perform a concert with accompanist Dr. Samuel Magrill at 3 p.m. Sunday [NOV. 9] in Lindsay.

    The Lindsay Civic Arts Council will present the free concert at the United Methodist Church, 114 W. Chickasaw Street in Lindsay. A reception will follow.

    Douglas Humpherys, chair of the piano department at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y., will perform a solo piano concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 8 [SATURDAY] in the Dorothy Summers Theatre at East Central University. The concert is free and open to the public.

    Humpherys completed graduate degrees at the Juilliard School and the Eastman School of Music where he is a professor of piano.

    Photographs of life in Calcutta shot by three East Central University students and their instructor will be on exhibit beginning Thursday [NOV. 6] in the Hallie Brown Ford Atrium of ECU's Linscheid Library.

    Opening receptions will be scheduled at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday in the atrium. The photos will be on display through Nov. 25.

    Auditions for roles in East Central University's production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella" will be held at 4 p.m. Nov. 10 [MONDAY] for non-ECU students and community members and at 4 p.m. Nov. 11 [TUESDAY] for ECU students.

    The auditions for the musical will be held in the Black Box Theatre on the lower level of Science Hall.
