    “Oh! The Places Tigers Will Go!” is the theme as East Central University will conduct its 2017 homecoming with activities on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 27-28.

    Highlights include the alumni golf tournament at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27, at the Oak Hills Golf and Country Club in Ada; homecoming parade on Saturday, Oct. 28, at noon and the football game at 4 p.m. Saturday against Arkansas Tech on Norris Field at Koi Ishto Stadium.

    The theme is in reference and honor of the famous children’s books by Dr. Seuss.

    The innovativeness of Jamie Leach and the leadership of her husband Clyde led to the formation of Leachco, an Ada-based company that focuses on the safety and well-being of children, as well as the comfort of expectant moms while adding convenience to parents’ busy lifestyles in 1988.

    Clyde Leach will be the keynote speaker at the Leonard Limes Lecture on Thursday, Nov. 16, in East Central University’s Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center. The lecture is being held in conjunction with the Tiger Tank Pitch Competition.

    East Central University will be closed for Fall Break Thursday-Friday, Oct. 19-20. Offices will reopen at 8 a.m. and classes will resume on Monday, Oct. 23. ECU’s Linscheid Library will close at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18 and reopen on Sunday, Oct. 22, from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. Normal operational hours for the library resume on Monday.

    The deadline has been extended for entries into East Central University’s 2017 Homecoming Parade, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 28, at noon along Main Street in Ada. Entries are open for floats (competitive and non-competitive), decorated car or truck, marching bands and walkers. The new deadline for entries is Wednesday, Oct. 18.     Dr. Jim Burke, Dr. Carol Bridges, Karen Gaddis and Donna Spivey have made significant contributions to social work in Oklahoma and to the students at East Central University.

    The foursome was recently honored for their efforts by the University of Oklahoma’s Anne and Henry Zarrow School of Social Work, which is celebrating its 100th Anniversary.

    East Central University is one of only 17 institutions of higher learning in 2017 to receive the Garrett Lee Smith Suicide Prevention Grant, it was recently announced.

    The grant will be utilized in the ECU Campus Suicide Prevention Grant Program, part of the Brandon Whitten Institute for Addiction and Recovery.

    Rusty Pickens, an East Central University computer science graduate and Chickasaw Nation citizen, will present the Lou Watkins Lecture at noon on Friday, Nov. 10, in Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    The lecture, being offered in conjunction with the Oklahoma Political Science Association Annual Meeting, is free and open to the public. A luncheon will take place prior to the lecture. For lunch reservations contact Christine Pappas at by Nov. 1.
