    Once East Central University's Homecoming football game is over Saturday night [OCT. 9], an unusual reunion will recall a one-time gathering place for ECU students of the 1970s and 1980s.

    The La Fragua reunion will begin around 9 p.m. at the Elks Lodge to recall the Ada club where ECU students spent many evenings. It will be open to all alumni, not just students from those two decades.

    Gen. James D. Thurman, an East Central University alumnus who commands the U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) at Fort McPherson, Ga., the army's largest command, and his wife, Dee, will be ECU's Aloha Homecoming parade marshals on Saturday [OCT. 9].

    The four-star general also will speak at a veteran appreciation ceremony Saturday morning and participate in the coin toss before the football game begins at 6 p.m.

    Five finalists are in the running for East Central University's 2010 Homecoming king and queen.

    ECU students will vote on Wednesday [OCT. 6] and the winners will be announced at the coronation at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 9 [SATURDAY] at Norris Field before the football game between ECU and the University of the Incarnate Word. Kickoff is at 6 p.m.

    High school marching bands will compete for awards Saturday [OCT. 2] in the first ECU Bron Warren Tiger Palooza at East Central University.

    The competition will begin at 4 p.m. at Norris Field. Each band will march twice, once for preliminary judging and again for the finals, which will begin at 7 p.m. A performance by ECU's Marching Band will conclude the program. The $2 cost covers admission and a program.

    The first astronomy viewing of East Central University's academic year will be from 8 to 9 p.m. Thursday [SEPT. 30]. Participants should be at the northwest corner of the Physical and Environmental Sciences Building in time to leave at 8 p.m. to drive to the country to view constellations.

    A tour to see some of the tallest mountains and rarest animals in Oklahoma will be conducted Oct. 9 [SATURDAY] by Dr. Michael Hughes of East Central University.

    The trip to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in western Oklahoma is the time to see and hear the refuge's elk during rutting season.
