    East Central University student Faith Lasiter has been selected to attend the National Education for Women Leadership Institute at the University of Oklahoma, May 20-24.

    Lasiter, a junior political science major from Eufaula, is enrolled at ECU to prepare to apply for law school. After earning an associate’s degree at Seminole State College, Lassiter joined the ECU Mock Trial Team and was selected for the DC Internship Experience 2016.

    Steven D. Gregory, inventor and founder of the Ram Jack methods of foundation repair, has been engaged with East Central University as a distinguished alumnus and supporter of students within the Harland C. Stonecipher School of Business.

    Ram Jack was recently recognized for its partnership with ECU by receiving the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education’s Regents Business Partnership Excellence Award.

    East Central University recently received the highest certification level – excellence status - for a Certified Healthy Campus by the Oklahoma Turning Point Council, it was recently announced.

    East Central University’s Political Science and Legal Studies Department has a tremendous track record of getting its students accepted into law school.

    Four current ECU students - Kaylin Cullum, Logan Harrison, Lauren Crudup and Maecey McClain – were recently accepted to a total of 10 law schools.

    “Since 2010, 86 percent of our students have been accepted to more than 40 law schools across the country. In 2014, all seven applicants were accepted,” said Dr. Christine Pappas, director of ECU’s Political Science and Legal Studies Department.

    East Central University leaders have been working collaboratively with local partners – the Chickasaw Nation and the U.S. EPA Robert S. Kerr Research Center - to discuss the launch of the Oka’ Institute, the new water science institute for water resource studies and programs at ECU. Oka’ is the Chickasaw and Choctaw word for water. The Oka’ Institute vision is to create practical water solutions both locally and globally, driven by research and directed by data that results in long-term sustainable ecological management and economic development.

    The East Central University Family and Consumer Science Department, in partnership with local retail businesses, will be hosting a fashion show and workshop, April 22, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Dorothy Summers Theatre on the ECU campus. 

    The stores showcasing their clothing are: Bella Ragazza, Cato Fashions, Twenty-Five Trading Company, Serendipity, Sharpe’s, Stage and The Rage. There will also be engaging workshops for Family and Consumer Science students from across the state. These students are part of the Oklahoma Career Technology System.

    East Central University’s Harland C. Stonecipher School of Business is conducting its 2016 Scholarships and Awards Banquet on Thursday, April 21, at 6 p.m. in Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    The East Central University Music Department will perform “A Concert of Baroque Music” on Thursday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Faust Auditorium. The concert will feature performances by faculty, students and community members, performing the music of J.S. Bach, A. Scarlatti, G.F. Handel, Telemann and others. Admission is free.
