    East Central University swept all three team awards in the Small Business Division and two ECU individuals – Miranda McNabb and Miles Mitchell – were honored as well during the 2015 Donald W. Reynolds Governor’s Cup Thursday, April 16, at the Chevy Events Center at Bricktown in Oklahoma City.

    Team SuiteSeat, led by Mitchell, captured first place. Team Gourmet Grub, led by Stanford Mahlatini, took second and Team Back-Spin, led by McNabb with team member Matthew Butler, placed third.

    A new era will be ushered into the learning environment at East Central University with the grand opening of the Dr. Raniyah Ramadan Center for Undergraduate Research and Learning at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 24.

    Event parking is located at the intersection of South Stadium Drive and East 10th Streets.

    The East Central University Opera Theatre will perform three one-act operas at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Friday, April 23-24, in the Dorothy Summers Theatre.

    The evening will begin with Gian Carlo Menotti’s “The Telephone”, followed by “A Hand of Bridge” (Samuel Barber) and “Little Red Riding Hood” (Seymour Barab).

    The performances will feature students from ECU’s music and theatre departments: Melody Dunn, Steve Filkins, Bessie-Mae Soh, Leah Whiten, Keegan Buckaloo, Ashley Tucker and Rebekah Pingleton.

    The East Central University Theatre Department will present “Woyzeck” at 7:30 p.m., April 16-18, at the Chalmers Herman Theatre in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

    “Woyzeck,” is written by George Buchner around 1833 and translated and adapted by Nicolas Rudall in the version being performed at ECU. It is a story about an army barber, Woyzeck, and his common-law wife, Marie. Woyzeck has been augmenting his army income by signing up for scientific experiments with a local doctor and has been placed on a diet of peas.

    East Central University’s Harland C. Stonecipher School of Business will conduct its 2015 Scholarship and Awards Banquet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, in the ECU Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center. Cost for the banquet, which includes a meal and attendance at the awards ceremony, is $15 per person. The reservation deadline is Wednesday, April 15.     Terri Talley, a survivor of the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, will speak at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, at East Central University’s Estep Multimedia Center inside the Bill S. Cole University Center.

    Talley’s speech is part of the 20th anniversary of the Oklahoma City Bombing in which ECU’s Office of Campus Involvement, along with the other Regional University System of Oklahoma (RUSO) institutions of higher education are actively participating in activities of service, honor and kindness.

    East Central University will screen the heartbreaking true story “Behind the Beautiful Forevers” at 4 p.m. Monday, April 13, in the Raymond J. Estep Multimedia Center of the Bill S. Cole University Center.

    Pulitzer Prize-winner Katherine Boo spent three years in India recording the lives of its residents. From her uncompromising book, winner of the National Book Award for Non-Fiction in 2012, comes this “magnificent” (Independent) and “compelling” (Daily Telegraph) play.

    East Central University has become one of only two institutions of higher learning in the country to receive dual accreditation under the recent affiliation agreement between the Council for Accreditation and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and the Council of Rehabilitation Education (CORE).

    College students now have the opportunity to achieve national certification through ECU’s Clinical Rehabilitation and Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program (M.S. degree).
