    Lyon, the project director of two federal grants at East Central University and an ECU graduate, could be the winner of another national cooking contest, the Cacique Go Autentico Recipe Contest. If so, she wins a week-long trip for two to Napa Valley and a five-day Culinary Institute of America Boot Camp vacation – or a mere $5,000 in cash.

    Students in East Central University’s School of Business are providing free tax assistance again this year to individuals with basic tax returns, particularly those with low and fixed incomes. They are participating in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program now located at the Chickasaw Nation Community Center at the northeast corner of Mississippi and Arlington.

    Ed Hobbs, the Horne & Company professor in accounting at East Central University, makes sure his students can gain real-world experience before they graduate – and in a way that helps the community.

    Hobbs’ advanced students participate in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program and provide free tax assistance to individuals with basic tax returns. They are providing that service again this year.
