    ADA – The state economy, Oklahoma citizenry and individual Oklahomans are benefiting significantly from the state’s public colleges and universities, including East Central University, according to a new report from the Battelle Technology Partnership Practice.

    ADA – East Central University faculty member Linda Schaefer’s passion for photography will be on display Friday through Monday (Aug. 2-5) at the JRB Art at the Elms Gallery, located at 2810 N. Walker, in Oklahoma City.

    “I find beauty wherever I point a camera,” said Schaefer, whose exhibit is entitled “Sacred Places” and will be a part of Paseo’s First Friday Gallery Walk.

    Exhibition times are from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. each day.

    Dr. Doug Weirick lives what he teaches.

    The professor and chair of East Central University’s Environmental Health Science Department is concerned about global climate change. So concerned that he practices concepts he teaches about at ECU to help reduce climate change while at home and also at work on the university campus.

    A generous donation from the estate of Margaret Scott will benefit three departments at East Central University.

    Nearly 3,000 pieces and seven closets full of designer clothing and pairs of shoes, with a retail value of anywhere from $500,000 to $1 million, were donated to ECU’s Family and Consumer Science, Business and Drama Departments.

    Sarah Suter has been selected as East Central University’s new Director of Student Organizations and Greek Life, it was announced recently.

    Suter recently completed her master’s degree, MSE-PD with an emphasis in higher education leadership from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She also received her bachelor’s degree of science education from that institution.

    She comes to ECU from the office of career and leadership development at UW-Whitewater.

    A team of East Central University computer science students and alumni placed third overall in the KIPR (KISS Institute for Practical Robotics) Autonomous Aerial Robotics Tournament held recently in Norman.
                
    The international tournament was part of the 2013 Global Conference on Educational Robotics. The ECU team also received a judges’ choice award for their use of external indicators to aid in navigating the course in the game called ‘Loop the Hoops’.

    Macy McDonald is the recipient of the Sara Randall Memorial English Scholarship for 2013-14 at East Central University. McDonald, an English major with a minor in sociology, graduated from Vanoss High School and is a member of ECU’s Presidential Leadership Class. She also is a member of Alpha Chi, Sigma Tau Delta and ECU Honors Program. McDonald was a Brad Henry Scholar for 2012-13. Randall was a junior at ECU majoring in English when she passed away. Her parents, Clifford and Janis Randall, have just completed the endowment of this scholarship in Sara’s memory.

    There are now three new members of the Gene and Evelyn Keefer Educator’s Hall of Fame at East Central University.
    Dr. Pam Deering, Dr. Tim Green (posthumously) and Jackie ‘Tex’ Rollins were formally enshrined in a ceremony held July 9 inside the Danley Hall Atrium.
