    Identity theft, fraud, phishing and cyber bullying are the unfortunate aspects of today’s technological landscape.

    East Central University’s student organization, 21ST3 (21st Century Students Transforming Teaching with Technology), is hosting a three-day cyber-focused event from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Oct. 28-30 in the Bill S. Cole University Center.

    The event, free and open to the public, is being held in conjunction with National Cyber Security Awareness Month (October) and the Department of Homeland Security’s national campaign called Stop.Think.Connect.

    Members of the East Central University Rotaract Club will dress in their craziest Halloween costumes and collect donations for PolioPlus during its annual “Costumes for a Cure” fundraiser on Oct. 29-30.

    Costumed members of the ECU Rotaract Club will collect donations from ECU faculty, staff and students.

    In the Heat of the Night, East Central University’s first featured stage performance of the 2014-2015 Fine Arts Season, is set for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, in the Ataloa Theatre of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

    L.A. Theatre Works, with Susan Albert Loewenberg as producing director, is presenting In the Heat of the Night, based on John Ball’s novel by the same name.

    Just in time for Halloween, Mary Shelley’s haunting classic Frankenstein will be screened at East Central University.

    Two different versions will be shown at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29 and Thursday, Oct. 30 in the Raymond J. Estep Center of the Bill S. Cole University Center.

    Dr. Jonathan White, a historian of the American Civil War, will present the 2014 Rothbaum Lecture, entitled “Lincoln and Civil Liberties,” at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 13, in the Estep Multimedia Room of the Bill S. Cole University Center.

    The lecture is free and open to the public.

    Two East Central University students – Laura Asaro and Linzi Thompson – achieved first place awards in the 20th Annual Oklahoma Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (OK-LSAMP) Research Symposium poster competition, held recently at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.
