ADA – All legacies begin with someone and for the Hargraves at East Central University it was Justice Rudolph Hargrave.
Rudolph Hargrave, Retired Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the State of Oklahoma, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday at the age of 89. The thoughts of the ECU community toward the elder Hargrave, is certain to have far-reaching effects for years to come.

ADA – The Ninth Annual Scissortail Creative Writing Festival, featuring Nathan Brown, Carolyne Wright, James Hoggard and Jonas Zdanys, along with more than 50 author presentations from Oklahoma and beyond, is set for April 3-5 at East Central University.
The event is free and open to the public. The festival begins at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, while on Friday and Saturday, April 4-5, the event begins at 9 a.m.

ADA – Jan Long’s intermediate construction (sewing) class is showing compassion toward underprivileged children far away and learning some valuable career tools in the process.

ADA – East Central University will host its Transfer Enrollment Day on Wednesday, April 9, at ECU’s Bill S. Cole University Center, beginning with a 12:30 p.m. check-in.
Students will have the opportunity to view the campus, meet with staff members from multiple departments on campus and enroll with a faculty advisor for the summer and fall semesters.

ADA – East Central University was recently recognized as an Oklahoma Certified Healthy Campus by the Oklahoma Turning Point Council. In order to achieve certified healthy campus status, institutions of higher learning and career technology centers made outstanding efforts and achievements in actively creating a safe and healthy environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors. ADA – A Red Tail dog tag souvenir will be distributed to all who attend East Central University’s Sixth Annual Louise Young Diversity Lecture on Tuesday, March 11, at 7 p.m. in the Ataloa Theatre of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.
Col. Charles McGee, one of the first African American aviators in the U.S. Armed Forces, will share his story at the lecture. The souvenir is free and the event is open to the public.

ADA – East Central University officially retired fallen teammate Chris Lane’s No. 7 baseball jersey at ECU’s Tiger Field on Wednesday, March 05, 2014. The ceremony was followed by a baseball scrimmage between ECU and Redlands Community College, where Lane played prior to coming to ECU. ADA – The importance and value of obtaining a college degree hasn’t slid by East Central University senior Talon Starkey.
But at one time it almost did.
Starkey is on track to graduate this May. But the long road has been anything but smooth for the political science major. Taking the blame for practically all of his transgressions, Starkey is a rags-to-riches story in an educational sense.
He recently delivered his story to state legislators and higher education leaders during Higher Education Day in Oklahoma City.
