    A best-selling author, acclaimed speaker and award-winning entrepreneur often referred to as the "Gen Y Guy" will be the keynote speaker Tuesday [APRIL 1] for TEAM GEAR UP's annual Career Symposium at East Central University.

    Jason Ryan Dorsey, who wrote the national bestseller "Graduate to Your Perfect Job" in his college dorm room, will address approximately 320 9th grade students from Allen, Byng, Milburn, Roff, Stonewall, Tupelo, Vanoss and Wapanucka.

    Students in East Central University's Art for Secondary Teachers class and the Ada Arts and Heritage Center will present a series of free art classes for elementary students each Wednesday in April.

    The classes, titled All About Art, will be held from 4 to 4:50 p.m. each Wednesday from April 2 through April 30 at the Ada Arts and Heritage Center. They are designed for children between the ages of 5 and 12 as part of project SOAP (Student Outreach Art Project).

    Two mass communication majors at East Central University dominated the  scriptwriting category in the 2008 Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association Student Competition.

    Blair Waltman of Maud placed second with her script, "Spaced! Online Addiction," and Jeremiah Edwards of Ardmore placed third with his script, "Uncrossed Starred Lovers."

    New works by East Central University senior art major Amber Farnell are on exhibit through April 30 at Murray State College in Tishomingo. The MSC art department is exhibiting the work in the Campus Center. Admission is free.

    Dr. Vivian Williamson Whitney, director of the Institute for Environmental Sciences Education and a grants research specialist at East Central University, has been selected to serve on an education advisory committee for the University of Hawaii.

    East Central University has been named to the 2007 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for its contributions to service in the community.

    ECU was one of 528 schools from across the country listed on the honor roll for its community service activities during the 2006-07 academic year. The awards were announced in San Diego, Calif., at the annual meeting of the American Council on Education.

    An architectural rendering of the proposed pedestrian plaza in front of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center on East Main Street shows space that can be used for art fairs, food festivals, student art exhibits, live music shows and many other outdoor events.

    An East Central University professor instrumental in setting up an exchange agreement between ECU and universities in Russia and Ukraine had an opportunity recently to explore additional study abroad opportunities for ECU students.

    Dr. Mara Sukholutskaya, associate professor of English and languages, visited Spain on a trip organized and sponsored by the Spanish Embassy in the United States.
