    The East Central University College Republicans, working with Chair of the Pontotoc County Republicans Tara Mullins, is hosting a forum for State Senate District 13 candidates on Thursday, May 12, at 6 p.m. in the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center. The forum, open to the public, will include the three Republican candidates – Jet McCoy, Greg McCortney and Shawn Howard. A meet and greet session will take place prior to event at 5 p.m.

    East Central University will conduct its annual “Evening of Honors and Recognition” on Friday, May 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the ECU Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    Honored will be the 2016 distinguished alums, distinguished former faculty, distinguished service and distinguished family, along with recognition of centennial endowments.

    Showing the successful ability in conducting research, some East Central University biology students were honored at the recent Tri Beta South Central Regional Convention in Cedar Hills, Texas. Morgan Mackey, of Choctaw, took first place for her oral presentation and Kimberly Condry, of Wagoner, placed second in the poster competition. Melissa Penton, of Porter, was named region secretary for Tri-Beta. There were a total of 180 students from about 30 colleges and universities from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.

    East Central University senior Tyler Rowsey has earned the Robert W. Sledge and H.Y. Benedict Fellowship, it was announced recently at the National Alpha Chi Convention in Alexandria, Va.

    Rowsey, from Allen, Oklahoma, claimed the award after placing first at the convention for his presented paper on “Investigating the Mechanism of Action of a Novel Antifungal.”

    Two outstanding East Central University senior students – Delaney Lippard and Linzi Thompson – have been named co-winners of the prestigious George Nigh Award for 2016.

    Lippard, of Pauls Valley, and Thompson, of Sulphur, were two of the five finalists selected for the awards which were presented Wednesday at a luncheon in Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    The other three finalists were Kimberly Condry, of Wagoner; Caroline Harris, Ada and Anna Talkington, Pauls Valley.

    Chase Tillar of Ada was selected to represent East Central University at Research Day held recently at the Oklahoma State Capitol. Twenty-four undergraduate students representing 18 Oklahoma colleges and universities presented competitive scientific research posters to the state Legislature and the public during this annual event sponsored by Oklahoma EPSCoR, the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and the National Science Foundation. The event is designed to raise awareness of the outstanding research taking place at Oklahoma’s colleges and universities.

    Ways to improve airline and back seats were the innovative entrepreneur ideas that took first and second place for East Central University teams at the 2016 Donald W. Reynolds Governor’s Cup, Thursday, April 14.

    Air-Ez, led by ECU freshman Larisa Bolin of Ada, and team member, ECU senior Breanna Ragan of McAlester, took first place in the Small Business Division. Air-Ez is an easily attachable system that turns a typical airline seat into a safe and comfortable seat for handicapped and mobility impaired individuals.

    ADA – Dr. Stacey Bolin, assistant professor of business administration in East Central University’s Harland C. Stonecipher School of Business, has been named a regional recipient of the 2016 Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Teaching Excellence Award. Dr. Bolin is also the director of the Wilburn L. Smith Center for Entrepreneurship.

    “I’m excited and honored to receive the ACBSP Region 6 Teaching Excellence Award,” Dr. Bolin said. “To be selected from a group of talented and inspirational professors is an honor.”
