A day of prevention and recovery will be the focus as “Step Out of the Darkness” will take place from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, beginning at the Pontotoc County Courthouse Plaza in Ada and concluding at East Central University’s Bill S. Cole University Center.
The event, free and open to the public, is being sponsored by the Brandon Whitten Institute for Addiction and Recovery at ECU and the Pontotoc County Drug Free Coalition.

The East Central University Music Department will present the Ninth Annual ECU Faculty, Students and Friends Composers’ Concert at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 14, at the Ataloa Theatre of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.
The concert is free and open to the public. This event was originally scheduled for last February, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
W.T. Skye Garcia, composer, is the concert series coordinator.

In observance of Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 7, the East Central University campus will be closed. Offices will re-open and regularly scheduled classes will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 8, beginning at 8 a.m.

A record eight East Central University students have the opportunity to learn from and absorb different cultures by studying abroad this semester through ECU’s Global Education Program.
Four will study in France, two are headed to Spain and one each will go to China and Wales as part of the Global Education Program which promotes, provides and facilitates academic and cultural exchange opportunities for students.

Be a part of a season filled with tap-tap-tapping action, musical comic relief and a live performance by a well-known celebrity at East Central University.
The featured lineup includes: Chicago Tap Oct. 6, Broadway’s Next H!t Musical (an improvised musical comedy) Jan. 21, 2016 and An Evening with Molly Ringwald April 7, 2016.
Ringwald will be singing jazz and musical standards as “The Very Thought of You,” “I Get Along Without You Very Well (Except Sometimes),” “I’ll Take Romance,” “Sooner or Later” and “Where Is Love.”

Grammy-nominated folk musician John Fullbright will be the featured performer at the revitalized AdaFest set for Saturday, Aug. 29, in the Ada Arts District.
AdaFest is free and open to the public.
The music festival begins at 5 p.m. and runs to midnight and will include musicians from the Happyland Music Alliance, the Native American flute-centric group Injunuity and the Oklahoma City-based punk-pop band Haniwa. Each of these performances will be in 30-45 minute sets with Fullbright’s performance to cap off the evening.

The Ninth Annual Tim Green All-Sports Golf Classic will take place Monday, Aug. 31, at the Oak Hills Country Club in Ada after being postponed due to the rainy weather in the area in May.
The tournament will have both morning and afternoon flights. Registration will start at 8 a.m. and the morning four-person scramble is set to start at 8:45 a.m. and afternoon scramble at 2 p.m. A lunch will also be provided for both flights at noon.
The entry fee for the scramble is $150 per person, with $105 eligible for a tax donation.
