    The Elvis Karaoke and Elvis Look-Alike Contests are shaping up to be two of the New Year's most fun-filled events, according to organizer Dr. Donna Gough.

    Gough will host the contests Dec. 31 [MONDAY] as part of the first-ever First Night Ada New Year's Eve Extravaganza which will be held at East Central University.

    East Central University's administrative offices will close at 5 p.m. Friday (DEC. 21) and reopen at 8 a.m. Jan. 3 (THURSDAY).

    ECU faculty members will return to the campus on Jan. 7 [MONDAY[. Orientation for beginning freshmen will be held on Jan. 8 [TUESDAY], as well as regular enrollment for any students who have not enrolled for the spring semester.

    Spring classes will begin on Jan. 9 [WEDNESDAY].

    Dr. Micheal Thompson, a successful businessman and professor of marketing and management at Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss., has been named dean of East Central University's School of Business. He will join the university on Feb. 1.

    He succeeds Dr. Bill Chapman who had served as interim dean since July.

    The first new Steinway pianos in East Central University's program initiative to become an all-Steinway school have been delivered to ECU's Music Department.

    The three Boston UP-118S Studio Upright pianos, designed by the famous piano manufacturer Steinway and Sons, also are the department's first purchase of new pianos in more than 10 years and the first multiple purchase in more than 20 years.

    Tours to art museums and wildlife areas are planned from January through March by the Center of Continuing Education and Community Services at East Central University. All tour prices include transportation, entrance fees and guide. Lunch is not included in the cost.

    A Winter Eagle and Snow Geese Tour on Jan. 12 [SATURDAY] will provide an easy opportunity to see both Oklahoma eagles and waterfowl. The cost is $45.

    Michelle McGee of Marietta has been selected as the first recipient of the Cara's Kids Scholarship awarded to an outstanding dancer at East Central University. The $250 scholarship was presented by Cara Crawford, director of the Central Oklahoma Dance Center in Ada.

    McGee, a senior, was selected for outstanding scholarship, dance technology and performance.
