    Every four years when the Summer Olympic Games roll around, East Central University’s Dr. Gerald Williamson likes to make connections with three former ECU standout athletes.

    All three of those stars competed for their respective countries – Cherene Hiesl-Castillo in softball for Team Canada and Gina Farmer and Rebecca Cotton in women’s basketball for New Zealand – in the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney, Australia.

    Approval has been granted from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education for East Central University to institute a new degree program – a master in management – within the Harland C. Stonecipher School of Business.

    Dr. Harvey Dean (left), founder and CEO of Pitsco, Inc., is presented with a plaque by Dr. Brenda Sherbourne, dean of the East Central University College of Education and Psychology, during the dedication of the new Pitsco STEM Maker Space Lab in the Lanoy Education Building on July 27. Dean, a 1965 ECU graduate, donated the materials and tools for the new and innovative lab, designed to integrate the STEM subjects - science, technology, engineering and math - into the school curriculum.

    Join an exciting entertainment experience by purchasing a membership for the 2016-17 East Central University Fine Arts Season, featuring comedian/actor Paul Reiser.

    Reiser, who starred in the 1990s hit television sitcom “Mad About You,” will bring his comedic talents, with an opening act from Vance Gilbert and hosted by Oklahoma comedian Rob Neville, to the Ataloa Theatre of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m.

    The East Central University Communications and Marketing Department recently captured six awards at the Oklahoma College Public Relations Association (OCPRA) Annual Conference at the Artesian Hotel in Sulphur.

    ECU garnered two grand awards (first place), one excellence award (second place) and two achievement awards (third place) to go with one honorable mention award at the event.

    The first-place awards were in the categories of radio and shoestring.
