    The East Central University Family and Consumer Science Department, in partnership with local retail businesses, will be hosting a fashion show and workshop, April 22, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Dorothy Summers Theatre on the ECU campus. 

    The stores showcasing their clothing are: Bella Ragazza, Cato Fashions, Twenty-Five Trading Company, Serendipity, Sharpe’s, Stage and The Rage. There will also be engaging workshops for Family and Consumer Science students from across the state. These students are part of the Oklahoma Career Technology System.

    East Central University’s Harland C. Stonecipher School of Business is conducting its 2016 Scholarships and Awards Banquet on Thursday, April 21, at 6 p.m. in Foundation Hall of the Chickasaw Business and Conference Center.

    The East Central University Music Department will perform “A Concert of Baroque Music” on Thursday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Faust Auditorium. The concert will feature performances by faculty, students and community members, performing the music of J.S. Bach, A. Scarlatti, G.F. Handel, Telemann and others. Admission is free.

    A classic of the modern American theatre will be performed April 8-10, as East Central University presents “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” in the Chalmers Herman Theatre of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

    Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 8-9, with a 2 p.m. matinee performance set for Sunday, April 10.

    A 1980s film icon is set to perform classical jazz vocals at East Central University, April 7, as Molly Ringwald takes center stage at 7:30 p.m. in the Ataloa Theatre for “An Evening with Molly Ringwald” at the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

    Every mill and factory in the town of Ada blew their steam whistles on March 25, 1909, in celebration of the creation of the East Central State Normal School.

    Oklahoma Governor Charles N. Haskell signed the Ada Normal School bill that day, and 107 years later, this institution of higher learning, now known as East Central University, is still a major part of a thriving community.

    Long after concluding her illustrious 38-year elementary school teaching career in 2005, Ada resident Ruth Ann Taylor has really never stopped instructing.

    The East Central University graduate has often made presentations in schools, to Boy Scout Troops and to civic clubs in her postretirement years.

    The 11th Annual Scissortail Creative Writing Festival will draw many creative writers and fans alike to East Central University in Ada, Okla., March 31-April 2, 2016.

    Authors Naomi Shihab Nye and Dr. Ben Myers will be featured in addition to more than 50 author presentations from Oklahoma and beyond. All sessions are free and open to the public.
